Throughout this project, I have studied photographers such as Peter Lindbergh. His belief that the responsibility of photographers today is to free women from the terror of youth and perfection, which particularly resonates within the meaning behind my work. In my first photoshoot I focused on close-up detailed shots of the face, I also experimented with reflections in a broken mirror to demonstrate how toxic societal beauty standards create distorted perceptions of the self.
PHOTOSHOOT 1 DEVELOPMENTS - DIGITAL EDITS AND PHYSICAL DISTORTIONS
In these photographs, I have edited them in various ways in photoshop. In the first two I have combined them with other photographs I have taken to create distorted reflections within the broken shards of glass. Reflecting the distortions created by social beauty standards and the harmful effects of them. These beauty standards leave behind fragile and broken people, who cannot view themselves in the same way again, therefore creating distorted reflections of ourselves when we look in the mirror.

Throughout this photoshoot, I asked each of the models to wear the clothes they normally would and do their hair and makeup as they usually would. I wanted to capture their authentic selves within these images. I have levelled the images in photoshop and converted them into black and white, but I did not retouch any perceived 'flaws' out of the images as I wanted them to be raw and be a true representation of them. Unlike the highly edited images that are produced in magazines that can create unrealistic standards for impressionable people.
PHOTOSHOOT 2 DEVELOPMENTS - DIGITAL EDITS AND PHYSICAL DISTORTIONS
In these photographs, I selected selections of the image and shifted them across to create a distorted image. I also created a dual tone effect by creating multiple layers, unselecting certain colours and shifting the image slightly. In another image in this section I have created a digital collage using sections of coloured and black and white images.

Throughout this photoshoot, I experimented with using direct sunlight, producing this high contrast images that highlight the details on the model's face. The harsh light also emphasis the structure and contours within the models face and created dark shadows. I then adjusted the levels on these photos in photoshop and converted them into black and white.
