HUMAN FORM
Throughout this photoshoot, I have taken images incorporating reflections to demonstrate how toxic societal beauty standards create distorted
perceptions of the self. I used objects such as glasses, perfume bottles and mirrors to create distortions and reflections, therefore symbolising self reflection. These images were inspired by Mac Adams and the way he uses reflections in objects within his images.
PHOTOSHOOT 1 DEVELOPMENTS - DIGITAL EDITS, TEST STRIPS, DIGITAL NEGATIVES AND PHYSICAL DISTORTIONS
Within these developments, I have created digital collages to reflect the distorted visions and perceptions social media creates. Within these mages I have experimented with reflections and mirrors to raise ideas of self reflection. I have also experimented with digital negatives, by inverting my images and printing them on acetate. I then created a test strip experimenting with different amounts of light. After this I then used light sensitive paper in the darkroom, placed the acetate on top and exposed it to light for 14 seconds. Finally, I developed the light sensitive paper, placed it in a stop solution, then in a fix solution and in the water bath for 10 minutes. Within this set of developments I have also experimented with different types of physical distortions for example, collaging and bleaching images, to reflect the distorted perceptions of ourselves that social media allows us to present.

PHOTOSHOOT 2
Throughout this photoshoot, I asked each of the models to wear the clothes they normally would and do their hair and makeup as they usually would. I wanted to capture their authentic selves within these images. I have levelled the images in photoshop and converted them into black and white, but I did not retouch any perceived 'flaws' out of the images as I wanted them to be raw and be a true representation of them. Unlike the highly edited images that are produced in magazines that can create unrealistic standards for impressionable people.
PHOTOSHOOT 2 DEVELOPMENTS - DIGITAL EDIT, PHYSICAL DISTORTIONS, TEST STRIPS AND DIGITAL NEGATIVES
In these photographs, I selected selections of the image and shifted them across to create a distorted image. I also created a dual tone effect by creating multiple layers, unselecting certain colours and shifting the image slightly. In another image in this section I have created a digital collage using sections of coloured and black and white images. I have also experimented with overlaying digital negatives over the top of each other to create a collage within the darkroom. Within this set of developments I have also experimented with different types of physical distortions for example, painting, collaging and bleaching images. In two of the images I painted I created lines that resemble a pattern of a finger print, linking with the theme of human form, to reflect the distorted perceptions of ourselves that social media allows us to present.
Final Piece Ideas
These images are additional collages I have made for my final piece after I decided I wanted all my images to be half black and white and half colour collages. I also decided to included statistics within my final piece about the harm of social media and the effect of societal beauty standards, linking with the main idea of my project. The collages are symbolic of the harm these beauty standards cause and how they distort our perceptions of ourselves and the distorted versions of ourselves that social media allows us to create.
